Alok Munshi
Growth Strategist. Builder. Systems Thinker.
The person behind the metrics
I think in
systems.
I started in Chemical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur — not because I wanted to become an engineer, but because hard problems with real-world constraints were the most interesting things I could find. That instinct didn't change. It just found a better domain.
Growth, to me, is an engineering problem with human variables. You zoom out to understand the system, identify the highest-leverage point, form a hypothesis, then ship fast and measure honestly. I've done that at OYO, American Express, and Zomato — and when the right tool didn't exist, I built it myself.
I'm drawn to problems that are genuinely hard and matter at scale — the kind where the solution has to hold for millions of people, not just work in a demo.
Mountain person
The Himalayas have a way of resetting your perspective on what actually matters.
First principles first
Strategy before data, frameworks before tools — then I execute fast.
Builder at heart
I get restless waiting for things to get built. If I can ship it myself, I will.
Future dog dad
Don't have one yet. Working on it. Probably a Golden Retriever.

Impact at scale
Numbers earned,
not inherited.
Every metric came from deliberate strategy, rigorous experimentation, and relentless execution — across Zomato, American Express, and beyond.
Built & shipped
Things I built.
I don't just strategise — I build the infrastructure. Solo, fast, at near-zero cost. Two of these run in production at Zomato and AmEx today.

Career journey
The story so far.
From startup founder in college to scaling growth at one of India's most ambitious companies. Every stop was intentional. Every role left something behind.

+79% new user growth · +29% OTR · WhatsApp Engine built solo
Own end-to-end growth strategy, investment decisions, and unit economics for Zomato's new user funnel — spanning performance marketing across Meta, Google UAC, and Apple Search Ads, product growth initiatives with design teams, and cohort-level capital allocation. When a tool I needed didn't exist, I built it.
Built the WhatsApp Campaign Engine solo — a production-grade proxy layer across 9 WhatsApp Business accounts that auto-swaps Meta-paused templates in under 3 seconds, at ~$0 monthly infrastructure cost. Zero downtime since launch. Also built a real-time Competitive Intel Dashboard via Sensor Tower API, served daily to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
Dual identity
Growth brain.
Builder brain.
What makes this rare: I think in strategy and first principles — then I build the system myself. No hand-offs. No dependencies. No waiting.

Let's build
something
great.
I'm a growth strategist who builds the infrastructure himself. If you're working on something ambitious — a hard scaling challenge, an ambitious product, or a team that needs both strategic thinking and technical execution — I'd love to hear about it.
Open to senior growth, product growth & strategy roles — advisory, consulting, and collaborative builds.
